The Ministry of Land Management, Water & Sanitation Services, through the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), in line with the Botswana Integrated Water Resources Management – Water Efficiency (IWRM-WE) Plan (2013), is proceeding with the implementation of a catchment management approach in Botswana, which comprises the establishment of Catchment Management Areas (CMAs) and Catchment Management Committees (CMCs) for each of the defined CMAs, and considering the following concepts.
Catchment Management Areas or CMAs are planning units for managing water resources at the lowest level. The CMAs might be defined upon different criteria, considering the physical, administrative and political context.
Catchment Management Committees or CMCs are decentralised bodies, constituted by representatives of different stakeholders’ groups, that will be responsible for local-level planning, control and monitoring of the CMAs water resources.
Catchment management is strongly based in stakeholder and community engagement. Therefore, we hereby invent every interested party to provide their opinion through the form below.
